Pearl jewelry for special occasions - such as a wedding

Perhaps you have heard that if the bride wears pearl jewelry on her wedding day, it brings bad luck! Each pearl symbolizes a tear shed during the marriage. In this country, this superstition has persisted to this day. In an international comparison, however, the Germans are pretty much alone with this assumption - because in other countries, the bride's pearl jewelry prophesies something positive. In India, for example, pearls symbolize a rich blessing of children. Brides should therefore wear a particularly large number of pearls. In Greece, if the bride receives pearl jewelry as a gift, it has a positive influence on the marriage.

Brides who are not inclined to superstition and prefer to believe the positive attributions of other countries can therefore also calmly adorn themselves with deep-sea treasures on their wedding day. Because admittedly: Shiny white pearls look fabulous with a wedding dress in any case.

Proper care for pearl jewelry

To ensure that pearls used in jewelry shine for as long as possible, the water treasures should be properly cared for. Proper pearl care begins with storage. Because there are a few things to keep in mind when storing pearl treasures: Since the ocean jewels scratch quickly, jewelry such as a pure pearl bracelet or a pearl ring should be stored individually if possible. This is because other precious metals can leave unsightly marks on the pearl surface. A jewelry case, for example, is suitable for storing different pieces of pearl jewelry separately.

Did you know that pearls are made of calcium carbonate and conchiolin? The protein is the main component of the outer skin of mollusks such as mussels. That's why pearls can't stand strong heat at all. It makes the pearl surface brittle and dull. Excessive sunlight or other sources of heat should therefore be avoided at all costs when wearing pearls. Caution when doing housework: Because pearls are natural products, acids or alkalis contained in household products can attack them. Therefore, the same applies here: When wearing pearls, keep your fingers away from the cleaning bucket!

But not only cleaning agents can attack the pearl surface: Human sweat is also capable of doing so. You should therefore gently wipe your pearl jewelry clean of sweat and cosmetics with a damp cloth after each wear. Especially interesting: Even though pearls come from the depths of the world's waters, they don't want to go back into the water after their "harvest". If the jewelry does get wet, simply lay it out to dry on a soft surface at room temperature. This will keep the pearl jewelry shining for a long time. By the way, the pearl luster is called "luster" and is the main criterion for determining jewelry quality. The more uniform and shiny the surface of the pearl appears, the better.

Pearl jewelry - a long tradition

The history of pearl jewelry goes back a long way: in the United Arab Emirates, teams of researchers have found pearl jewelry dating back to 5547 and 5235 BC. There are even myths surrounding Cleopatra: she is said to have dissolved a large pearl in vinegar and drunk the mixture. Throughout antiquity and also among the Greeks and Romans, pearl jewelry was highly prized. The most famous pearl "La Peregrina" was discovered in the 16th century on the Pacific coast of Panama and is still admired for its extraordinary beauty. Symbolically, the pearl is often associated with purity and virginity. In many cultures around the world, the pearl is also attributed a deeper meaning: in China, for example, it is considered a sign of dignity, wisdom and wealth. In Japan, pearl jewelry stands for good luck, and in India it symbolizes the abundance of children.

But what about the pearl's significance and popularity today? While pearl necklaces or a pearl bracelet do not make men particularly happy in most cases, the treasure from the water is still popular in the ladies' world. A timeless pearl bracelet? Ladies of the world love it! But when thinking about the jewelry, images of clunky giant pearl necklaces and exaggerated pearl hangings not infrequently flash through the minds of modern urbanistas. So it's all the better that current trend developments have replaced the pompous pearl jewelry popular in the past with timeless, more delicate models.

But what makes pearl jewelry modern - forever? The answer lies primarily in the filigree and the mix of materials. Pearl jewelry, like that from fejn, combines precious metals like gold and silver with pearl elements and focuses on clean, simple design. The result is pearl jewelry that is suitable for everyday wear and perfectly underscores the style of true urban heroines. So it's definitely not too late to buy pearl jewelry!

Jewels from nature - how are pearls formed?

As a natural product, pearls spring from shells that live in the sea or fresh water. How exactly they arise in nature, this question science has not been able to answer completely until today. Earlier theories assumed that a pearl is formed only when a foreign body (such as a grain of sand or a parasite) enters the shell's interior. Thus, it was assumed that the mollusk forms the pearl as a defense mechanism. In this assumption, pearl formation serves to get rid of foreign bodies and banish the potential danger.

In pearl farming, this natural mechanism is still used today: Small foreign bodies are deliberately introduced into the mollusk to stimulate pearl production. This works in both salt and fresh water, as pearl-producing mollusks are found in both types of water.

Today, experts assume that in natural pearl formation, the epithelial cells of the mussel are responsible for production when they are carried into the deeper tissues of the mussel by parasites or other injuries. However, this theory has not been proven either.
